Officially one week on the road!
Yesterday was Day 7. We woke up this morning to having been on the road one full week! That’s pretty exciting.
We drove from Rock Springs, WY to Ogden, UT. The drive definitely got prettier in Utah, and we enjoyed seeing the historic district of Ogden. It was a quiet day/evening. We stayed at a golf course just outside of Ogden. They didn’t have a restaurant, and we didn’t want to cook in the heat, so we ate a makeshift dinner of 7-layer dip, chips, and fruit. We are often thankful we don’t have little kids we have to feed proper, not to mention entertain. Ha!
TRAVELING WITH CATS
The temperature is going up more and more as we get further west. Yesterday in Ogden was a high of 85 and a low of 67. That’s the warmest it’s been on this trip, and by the time we hit Boise area it’ll be over 100 degrees. (Yes, I know you Oregonians got hit with way hotter recently and I am not complaining!) While Mike and I love the heat, We are a little worried about the cats and keeping the RV cool enough for them. I’ve read a lot about it and tried to take some precautions and purchase things that will help keep them safe.
One thing we purchased is a monitor called MarCELL. You set high and low limits for both temperature and humidity. It will alert you on your phone and in email when the temp or humidity goes outside the limits. It’ll also alert if power is lost to the RV. This way, we can leave the cats alone in the RV and know that if it gets too hot we will be notified, and can come back to adjust or leave. Also, if we were plugged into electricity somewhere and relying on the AC to keep them cool, we would be alerted if the power went off and would know the AC was no longer on. While this is a huge comfort, I’m still a bit nervous. We may have to always have electricity and not be able to do a lot of the one-off stops without hookups like we have been doing, when it’s any warmer than it was yesterday.
While exploring Ogden we got a notification from MarCELL that it was 86 degrees in the RV. So, we walked back to where we had parked. The cats were fine, of course (we set it so it’ll let us know before it’s dangerous, hopefully!). That’s the warmest it’s been inside the RV so far. We have the limit set to 85 degrees; it used to be 80, but we got notified a lot, and it wasn’t necessary with the windows open. While it felt quite warm inside, it was not so hot we were worried, but we hit the road again to run the AC and keep them comfortable.
So, thankfully, MarCELL did his job!
You guys are a great time but even though you have only been gone a short time you’re missed. The cat Vlade just a nosy Parker 😀😀😊 and never been outside the “D”.
He does like to brag to all the cats out here about his time “on the streets of Detroit.”
We miss Detroit too!!
Well, y’all did dodge a bullet on temp. Just talked to Betsy and it got as highas115 with no AC! Great move on the MarCell thing! I hate seeing animals and kids stuck in hot vehicles! I heard new law allows for breaking windows in extreme circumstances!👍🏻Haven’t had to do that yet!Well, keep on rolling and be safe! Loving the picture frame. Haven’t screwed it up yet!! I’m out…Dad.❤️
