Hello Oregon!

We drove from Nampa ID to Steens Mountain Wilderness in Frenchglen, OR on Sunday, 7/4.

WE MADE IT TO OREGON!

We stayed at Steens Mountain Wilderness RV Campground. This one is not a part of any membership we have, so we did pay full price for it. Last time we were in the Steens area we stayed at Page Springs Campground and loved it. But it’s a rustic campground, which means no hookups for us. In this heat with the cats, we have to have hookups. Although not our favorite campground in the area, we liked our spot. There was a decent view of some mountains and the sunset. And we had some really nice neighbors we enjoyed visiting with.

It’s nice to be back at a real campground, for the first time this trip. We got the cooler out of the motorhome, set up our favorite chairs, and enjoyed being outside in the middle of nowhere. We love Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Host so much, and they make this travel affordable for sure. But one of the biggest reasons we ended up in this lifestyle is our love for camping. Actual camping. At BW and HH locations, you cannot treat their private property like a campsite. You can’t put your things outside and set up and site, out of respect (of course). So, we’ve have the cooler inside the motorhome the whole time. It doesn’t bother us much, but it sure is nice to get a two night stay in where we can set up “camp!”

The mosquitos were out immediately. As soon as I stepped out I was being bit, so we went back inside and applied our mosquito protection right away! We love this stuff we use, it goes on like a lotion instead of a spray, and it covers really well. Yes, it has deet. So many people have a trick they swear by, or an essential oil concoction they claim works. None of it has ever really worked for me. I get eaten alive by mosquitos. So, yes, we use a product with deet. Sorry, but it works…

Is it just me, or are mosquitos worse than ever? When I was younger it seems like there was just a couple hour time period in the late afternoon/early evening that you worried about them. Now, they’re biting all day and still after dark. I hate it!

Actually, the last day we were there we got sloppy and didn’t reapply… and regretted it for the next three days. Ugh.

Anyways, we had such a nice evening. Sat outside, walked Vlade, went for a walk ourselves, watched the sunset, listened to music, grilled dinner, looked up at thousands of stars visible in the clear sky including the milky way, and just felt RELAXED. More relaxed than we have been able to feel since we left Detroit.
