Boys’ Weekend
Dez and I left Pacific City in the morning. She headed to Mt. Hood for a girls’ weekend and I went camping with the boys outside of Vernonia.
The road there was narrow, winding, and rough. By the time I got to the campsite, most of the contents of the drawers and cabinets were on the floor.
Stopped at the local store for supplies where I bought $50 of groceries for $150.
After over paying for junk food and beer, it was a short drive to Big Eddy. It’s a small campground on the Nehalem River with a lot of shade and zero cell service.
After finishing cleaning and setting up, Alex and Daylan arrived. It was a pretty low key day and evening. Grilled some steaks, drank some beer and played some board games.
During the night we heard some weird noises. The campers next to us swore it was a coyote but we knew it was definitely NOT that.
The next morning I made breakfast and we tried our luck fishing for small mouth bass at and old mill pond in Vernonia. The fish did not cooperate so we grabbed some lunch in town before heading back to camp. Later we headed over to Stub Stewart state park for some disk golf. It was my first time and the results were as expected.
Later that evening, we found the source of last night’s mysterious sounds when we spotted a group of Great Horned Owls. They are huge and noisy. The link below will give you an idea (check it out at the :55 mark)
On Saturday morning, Nick arrived after having to work late on Friday. We took a drive through Mist and over the hill to the towns of Clatskanie and Rainier on the Columbia River. That evening we played a new game that Nick brought called Munchkins and relaxed.
It’s not often that all the boys and I can get together and just chill. Very thankful that we made this happen.
