“Up With the Sun, Gone With the Wind”

It was a beautiful morning from our site high on a hilltop just outside Cheyenne. We had a quick breakfast and got on our way. Wyoming is 400 miles across and we wanted to get as far across as we could today.

This part of our trip is unscripted meaning that we have no idea where we will sleep tonight. Dez checks Harvest Host and Boondockers Welcome first for any available sites. These are easily are favorite places to stay. Not only are they free, they are far more beautiful and interesting than most camp sites.Unfortunately, nothing is available within our driving range so we start our check down. Campgrounds (Government and private), Army Corps of Engineers sites, Casinos, Walmart parking lots, and rest areas.

We find a fairgrounds in Rock Springs, WY. On the positive side, it has full hook ups; the down side is it does cost us $30. We are trying to keep our cost per night down but this will do. Rock Springs is an old coal town and the old downtown is quaint with a decent brewery. We stop for a beer and then head to the fairgrounds for the night.

Yay! Wyoming posts (did you honk and wave at Rawlins?). So fun, and hopefully your adventures have less “events” and more fun experiences!

America wide and diverse geographically. Thanks for share kids. What was it like to cross the Continental Divide?

The divide is more a symbolic thing than a visual one. It is good to be on the “downhill” side, tho!
